Is 45 minutes a standard therapy session?

Yes, Tammy, that’s generally right. I, though, prefer a 50-minute schedule, I like those few extra minutes as they can lead to surprises.

However, I’ve been knocked about my whole 45-year career by a chronically debilitating auto-immune disease that has periodically interfered with my work. When I am in physical trouble, I will revert to a 45-minute schedule as I sometimes need 15 minutes between sessions to recuperate. When the crisis has passed, I return to 50-minute sessions.

This possibility of reduced sessions is always something I explain to a prospective patient right away so that neither my medical problems nor moving to a period of shorter sessions doesn’t come as a surprise. Besides, a new patient deserves to know of my medical struggles that can from time to time, interfere with our work.
